Delivery Unit Optimization….or DUO as we know it…
We had training at Convention but still it seemed as something that wasn’t really going to happen. Only one Colorado Post Office was on the list. Only….only if it isn’t your office. To Cathy Solko, Postmaster of Milliken—the “only” Post Office on the DUO list at the time of convention it didn’t seem like “only”. As I write this there are now 13 on the official list and I’m hearing from more Postmasters that they have been notified by their POOM that their office is on the list.
This process is going through and there doesn’t seem to be anything we can do to stop it. In some cases the District has projected less than $2000 savings a year and yet they are still going through with it. I sat in on the very first telecon with Cathy and the “experts” at the District couldn’t answer any of Cathy’s questions…the answer was “We’ll get back to you with an answer”. A few weeks later when Kiowa was officially added to the list they still couldn’t answer our questions. It was plain to me that they hadn’t even read the DUO guidelines as they couldn’t figure out why I was asking when and how Kiowa’s box mail would be delivered to the Kiowa Post Office. In the “Talking Points” it stated that part of the projected savings would be from “morning transportation eliminated”.
The DUO Guidelines, checklists, training can be found at NAPUS.org. Read it all to be prepared for the phone call that your office is either the “giving” or “receiving” office in the DUO process.
Then the minute you get the call from your POOM that your office is now on the DUO list, call me. My cell phone number is 720-339-8824. I will get the cost analysis and together we will go over it to see if there is something we can dispute.
and always remember….
